Protection for children
Why Child Cover Matters
There are standalone policies designed to protect your children from pregnancy through to early adulthood, in some cases up to age 22 depending on the plan. Child cover can sit alongside your existing cover or be taken out on its own, offering a type of protection that many standard policies do not provide.
It’s there to support your family if the unexpected happens — such as accidents or certain serious conditions — so you can focus on your child rather than worrying about money.
Why is this important?
No matter how careful we are as parents, accidents and illnesses can still happen — at home, at school, while out playing or during activities. When a child is hurt or unwell, the last thing you want is the added stress of financial pressure.
Child cover is designed to ease that pressure by providing financial support when your child needs extra care. Some plans may also include added benefits such as access to a wellbeing support centre, counsellors, legal advisers and 24/7 nurse support, as well as a virtual GP service so you can speak to a doctor quickly from home. Specific benefits, ages and cover limits depend on the insurer and policy terms.
How it works
Child cover can pay set benefits if your child suffers a covered accident or is diagnosed with one of the specified illnesses or conditions under the policy.
In many cases, there is no medical underwriting, the application is straightforward, and cover can begin quickly. Some plans can also cover multiple children under one policy, with claims handled in line with the policy terms and conditions.
