Why Life Insurance Matters

Most households rely on a monthly income to keep everything running. If you were no longer here and your income disappeared overnight, the impact on your family, or your business, could be huge.
Life Insurance provides a financial safety net for the people you leave behind. It can help cover the mortgage, everyday living costs, childcare and future plans. It is not about expecting the worst – it is about making sure that if something did happen, your family is not facing money worries on top of everything else.

Protecting your home

For many people, one of the main reasons to take out Life Insurance is to protect the family home. If you have a mortgage and live with a partner or family, it is sensible to think about how that mortgage would be paid if you were not around.
Without life cover in place, your family might struggle to keep up the mortgage and bills on a reduced income. In the worst case, they could be forced to move, rent, or rely on family for somewhere to live. A Life Insurance policy can be arranged so that if you die during the term, your mortgage can be repaid. That can help your family stay in their home without a mortgage to worry about, at an already difficult time.

Protecting your family’s lifestyle

Beyond the mortgage, you can also set up Life Insurance to provide an extra lump sum or monthly benefit for your family. You choose the amount of cover and how long the policy lasts.

That money can help replace some of your lost income and support things like:

Household bills and day-to-day living costs

Children’s activities, school trips or fees

Holidays and one-off costs

A general buffer so your family has time and space to adjust

You can also choose to link the cover to inflation, so the amount stays more in line with the cost of living over time.

Death in service and other benefits

Some employers offer a “death in service” benefit as part of their package. This usually pays a lump sum if you die while employed there. It can be very helpful, but it is not a full replacement for your income, and it normally stops if you change jobs.

If you do have death in service, it is still important to look at the bigger picture and check whether your overall protection is enough for your family’s needs, especially if you have dependents or large financial commitments.

Tailoring cover to your needs

Life Insurance is often less expensive than people expect, and it can be tailored around your life:

$

Getting married or moving in with a partner

$

Having children

$

Changing jobs or starting a business

$

Moving home or taking on a bigger mortgage

As life changes, your protection can change with it.

Where appropriate, we can also help you arrange for a life policy to be set up in trust. This can help make sure the money goes to the people you intend, is normally paid without delay, and may be outside of your estate for inheritance tax purposes. Getting this right is important, which is why proper advice matters.
